To keep water away from the foundation, a drainage system called the footing drain is placed to help keep water moved away from the area. This is usually routed to a daylight or storm drain area where it will not do damage to the homes foundation.
The footing drain is an area near the wall foundation and is covered with gravel so it is not noticeable to the naked eye. With the stone bedding, there is a filter type of fabric that allows the water to freely move and keeps other debris out of the drainage. Since this water can go back into the storm drain areas, you do not want contamination in the system.
These can be installed entirely underneath the project that you’re having built which will keep the entire system out of sight. There are also options where the drainage system can be tied to sump pump that will help to move the water away from the foundation.
